Detached Duty Report

Cahawba Ala
Our detachment reported to Cahawba this morning per our orders. Guarding the Yankee prisoners is a duty I find loathsome. The rations received by these men exceeds rations we have gotten many times while in the field. I noticed these wretches exhibit little of the dash and elan found so readily among our troopers. Most of them are quite content to be penned up. They while away the hours writing letters and lazing about. It is my considered opinion given the munitions and rations required we can whip them in detail.
We have been released from our duties here and are making our way towards Harpersville Ala to rejoin the main body.
